Our focus
The Clinical Center for Vector-Borne Infections (KCVI) forms the foundation of our research, where tick-borne infections are the most important and commonly occurring vector-borne infections in Denmark. Therefore, our primary focus area is also tick-borne infections, particularly neuroborreliosis.
Through KCVI, we aim to build experience and gather knowledge about tick-borne infections, not only Lyme disease but also lesser-known infections such as anaplasmosis, rickettsiosis, and TBE. By accumulating clinical experience on these infections, we hope to gain better understanding, leading to improved treatment.
We are working on developing and applying new methods for both diagnosis and monitoring of these infections. We collaborate with leading researchers in tick-borne infections across several countries. By bringing together expertise and the latest diagnostic and surveillance methods, KCVI can contribute new knowledge and research findings, while ensuring that patients with tick-borne infections receive the best treatment.
The center was founded in 2014 with the aim of building a knowledge center and outpatient clinic specializing in the evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and research of tick-borne infections. The center is also based on interdisciplinary cooperation between the Infectious Diseases Department Q, the Neurology Department N, and the Clinical Microbiology Department at OUH.
At the center, we treat patients with neuroborreliosis from all over the Region of Southern Denmark, as well as referrals for patients with complicated vector-borne infections. We offer coordinated diagnostic and treatment pathways. We receive referrals both from other hospitals, as well as from general practice and other regions. Additionally, we offer telephone consultation for doctors regarding these infections.
