Software is everywhere today and plays a major role in our daily lives. Software engineers create software that supports business operations and connects software with physical equipment. The development of software is becoming an increasingly significant part of our society, and there is a high demand for software engineers.
As a software engineer, you could, for example, help develop software that connects people or makes it easy to program a robot, enabling smarter and more cost-effective production.
What will I learn?
With a BEng degree in Software Technology, you will gain the skills to develop software systems, maintain software for various platforms, advise on and work to align software with user needs, lead the development of IT projects, and much more. You will have ongoing opportunities to test your skills on business cases and through direct collaboration with industry partners.
During your studies, you will, among other things, learn about web technology to create innovative and advanced solutions within e-commerce or healthcare. You will also learn how to develop systems and apps for devices like smartphones. You will receive instruction in areas such as system development, programming, databases, mathematics, web technology, communication, and leadership.
You do not need to know how to program before starting, as the program includes an introductory course on programming. At the start of the program, it is assumed that new students have no prior experience with programming.
How is the study program structured?
During your studies, you will work extensively in project groups, where you and your fellow students will solve problems for companies through case-based assignments.
Each semester is centered around a main theme, which serves as the foundation for the semester’s theoretical learning and project work.
- 1st semester focuses on the development of software programs.
- 2nd semester centers on the development of software systems.
- 3rd semester addresses distributed software systems.
- 4th semester is about software systems with flexible frontends.
- 5th semester emphasizes innovation and entrepreneurship, where you collaborate with students from other study programs.
- 6th semester requires a mandatory internship at a company, which can take place in Denmark or abroad.
- 7th and final semester involves the completion of a graduation project – often in collaboration with a company.
What career opportunities do I have?
A degree as BEng in Software Technology opens up numerous career opportunities – both in Denmark and abroad. Software engineers work in areas such as development, testing, project planning, consulting, sales, and project management. You could work in the software industry, pharmaceutical and food companies, the retail sector, or production companies that manufacture parts for electric vehicles, hospital equipment, or building components like thermostats.
Your tasks might include maintaining or developing new IT systems, sales, consulting, project management, IT system operations, or optimizing production systems. Your knowledge of software and web technology is in demand when transport and production companies need to integrate IT systems.

Can I continue my education?
A degree as BEng in Software Technology is a stand-alone, completed degree. After 3½ years, you graduate as a engineer and are ready to enter the job market as an engineer. If you wish to delve deeper into your education and continue your studies, you can pursue a master’s degree, such as a MSc in Engineering - Software Engineering.
