Introduction to Machine Learning is a 4-hour course.
What you will learn
- How to devise a basic machine learning algorithm to solve a supervised learning task
- How to implement the algorithm on the computer using a programming language
- How to evaluate the success of the algorithm at solving the target task
How the course adds value to your organisation
With the skills you will acquire in this course, you will be able to:
- Assess the potential of using cutting-edge AI technologies in your existing and future operations
- Improve your literacy to follow the recent advances in the field and make more informed decisions about how to integrate them into your business
- Use data to build predictors to automate a process or to support a critical decision
Your profile
The course is primarily aimed at managers and employees in IT departments.
The participants must have skills in calculus at least at bachelor level. Basic skills in programming are also an advantage.
The course provides basic skills to understand and implement simple machine learning algorithms. The course introduces the most fundamental concepts of machine learning, with a focus on supervised cases where observations are accompanied by a target result. The course provides both an overview of main theoretical properties of established algorithms and examples of their implementation with state-of-the-art technologies.
The course is taught in English.
Syllabus
- Basic concepts (bias-variance dilemma, training-validation, overfitting-underfitting, classification-regression)
- Supervised learning with linear models
- Nonlinear methods: neural networks
- Evaluating model performance
- Implementation practice on real-world data sets with PyTorch
