Elite Research Travel Grant awarded to PhD student Johanne Dam Lyhne
Johanne Dam Lyhne conducts research in psycho-oncology, focusing on how the healthcare system addresses late effects and patient needs that extend beyond the traditional understanding of cancer treatment. She plans to use the travel grant for a research stay in Sydney.
What is psycho-oncology?
Psycho-oncology is a multidisciplinary field of research and treatment focusing on the psychological, social, behavioural, and emotional aspects of cancer—for both patients and their relatives.
The Elite Research Travel Grant is awarded to exceptionally talented PhD students, enabling them to develop their expertise at some of the world’s leading research institutions.
– I am particularly interested in how we address the late effects and needs that fall outside the traditional scope of "cancer treatment." This involves systematically identifying, assessing, and managing the psychological impact of cancer, which many patients experience after treatment. To achieve this, we need new guidelines, workflows, and treatment options. I hope my research will help create a more holistic approach to cancer care and improve the quality of life for those affected by cancer, explains Johanne Dam Lyhne.
She will use the grant for a research stay in Sydney, where she will specialise further in implementation within the field of psycho-oncology.
Congratulations to Johanne on this well-deserved grant!
