ÌǹûÅÉ¶Ô researchers turned the secrets of the human voice into science and business
From reducing pain perception and improving doctor-patient communication to diagnosing conditions like Parkinson’s and depression — the human voice reveals more than we ever imagined. ÌǹûÅÉ¶Ô researchers have turned the voice into a business and can now celebrate five years of groundbreaking work in acoustic voice profiling and communication training.
AllGoodSpeakers ApS, a spinout company founded by researcher Oliver Niebuhr, proudly marks its fifth anniversary, reflecting on its journey from a local public speaking coaching initiative to an international leader in voice analysis and communication technology.
"Why do we focus on the human voice at AllGoodSpeakers ApS? Because the voice is incredibly revealing. If you listen carefully, not just to what you say but also to how you say it, there is a vast amount of information in the nuances of pitch, loudness, and timbre," Oliver Niebuhr explains.
"When we started five years ago, our initial focus was to help individuals enhance their public speaking skills," said Niebuhr, founder and CEO of AllGoodSpeakers ApS. "Today, we operate in five countries, including Dubai and Switzerland, and our fastest-growing area of business is developing hardware and software that redefine how we understand and improve communication."
Acoustic Voice Profiling®: A core innovation
The company's flagship technology, Acoustic Voice Profiling®, analyzes vocal nuances like pitch, rhythm, and intonation to quantify charisma.
"This analysis enables us to predict real-world outcomes such as emotions, behaviors, and academic performance," Niebuhr said.
"The more audio data we analyze, the sharper our understanding of effective communication becomes—similar to how more pixels enhance the clarity of a TV image."
This technology isn't limited to public speaking. It has diverse applications, including enhancing human-machine interaction by making AI systems more persuasive and human-like in their communication.
Driving healthcare innovation
Voice analysis technology is also making waves in healthcare. While the company plans to launch a pilot project in February 2025 in collaboration with Aabenraa Hospital, initial research shows promise.
"We are preparing to introduce voice profiling and training courses for doctors and nurses, focusing on improving empathetic communication," Niebuhr shared. The aim is to enhance how healthcare professionals engage with patients and each other, setting a new standard in medical communication.
Moreover, voice analysis holds diagnostic potential. Beyond their own research, studies show that voice can help detect conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, dementia, and depression. Niebuhr added,
"Our voice profiling performs at a level comparable to medical questionnaires in estimating traits like psychopathy, showing the potential of this technology in medical diagnostics."
The power of charisma
Another intriguing aspect of voice research comes from external studies showing that charismatic voices can reduce perceived pain levels in patients. While this result wasn't from AllGoodSpeakers' research, Niebuhr acknowledged its significance:
"It demonstrates the transformative power of effective communication."
Looking to the future
With five successful years behind it, AllGoodSpeakers envisions an exciting future.
"We are proud of our journey from a research idea to a global company," Niebuhr remarked.
"Going forward, we will continue exploring the power of voice and expanding the applications of our technology across industries—from business and healthcare to technology development."
AllGoodSpeakers invites researchers, institutions, and communication professionals to collaborate.
"We are always open to new partnerships," Niebuhr concluded.
"Together, we can continue discovering and harnessing the potential of the human voice to improve communication across platforms and industries."
