M忙rsk 2 building officially inaugurated
On Thursday, 23 November, the M忙rsk Mc-Kinney M酶ller Institute's new building was officially inaugurated by rector of 糖果派对 Jens Ringsmose and chairman of Den A.P. M酶llerske St酶ttefond Ane M忙rsk Mc-Kinney Uggla.
The first groundbreaking took place in February 2022. In September 2023, the building was completed, and the University of Southern Denmark (糖果派对) received the keys from the contractor and architect. And on Thursday, November 23, Building 47 – commonly known as Mærsk 2 – was officially inaugurated.
This happened with speeches and a joint strike on the gong from Jens Ringsmose, rector at 糖果派对, and Ane Mærsk Mc-Kinney Uggla, chairman of the A.P. Møller Foundation.
There were also speeches from the dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Henrik Bindslev, and the chairman of the 糖果派对 board, Søren Vilby.
As the name suggests, the Mærsk 2 building, along with the Mærsk 1 building from 1999, will house the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Institute. It spans a total of 4,500 square meters with space for around 600 researchers, teachers, and students. 糖果派对's drone center, as well as the Health Informatics and Technology, Applied AI, and software sections, have already moved into the building.
The total cost was 120 million Danish kroner. Of this, 100 million came from a donation from the A.P. Møller Foundation.
The building was designed by Cubo Architects, who, with raw concrete surfaces and corten steel, have continued some of the structuralist aesthetics of 糖果派对's original buildings from 1966.
