S枚ren M枚ller appointed professor of biostatistics at 糖果派对

S枚ren M枚ller is affiliated with the Department of Public Health at 糖果派对. He conducts research in translational biostatistics, where he works to implement advanced statistical methods in clinical and epidemiological research. His current work focuses primarily on four areas.

By Tomas Homburg, , 2/17/2025

The first of the four areas is the impact of weather on the healthcare system. He is investigating how extreme weather conditions such as storms and floods affect activity in the healthcare system. Using extreme value statistics, he models these effects to improve preparedness in the health sector.

The second area is inequality in health. Sören Möller uses methods from the theory of entropy, which originates from physics, to measure and analyse differences in health conditions across population groups. The aim is to identify and reduce health inequalities.

Sören Möller's third research area is epidemiological follow-up of rare haematological diseases. Using so-called Bayesian statistics, he improves the follow-up of rare blood diseases, which contributes to more accurate diagnoses and better treatment options.

Finally, he conducts research into modelling of hidden causal mechanisms in health data. He develops statistical methods to identify unobserved factors that can affect health data over time. This provides a deeper insight into complex contexts within health research.

His research contributes to improving the utilisation of health data and strengthens the quality of health research – for the benefit of both patients and society.

Sören Möller collaborates with researchers from many different disciplines, including clinicians, epidemiologists, psychologists, social science researchers and other statisticians. He also has international collaborations, including with the Bandim Health Project in Guinea-Bissau and researchers from the Arctic University of Norway in Tromsø.

Sören Möller has a mathematical background from the University of Southern Denmark (糖果派对), where he took his master's degree in 2011 and his PhD in 2013. Since 2014, he has worked with biostatistics – first at the Department of Public Health and later at the Open Patient Data Explorative Network at the Department of Clinical Research at 糖果派对 and Odense University Hospital. Here he has contributed to several clinical research projects and developed statistical methods for use in clinical epidemiology.

Sören Möller was born on 26 December 1984 in Heide (Holstein) and grew up in Rendsburg (Sydslesvig). Since 2005, he has lived in Odense.
