Meet an alumni
Meet alumni Louise Fenger Kornum
"I wasn鈥檛 sure what I wanted to do with my degree, but my excellent lecturers opened my eyes to working with international market relations"
Louise’s role in the industry
As a senior process consultant at Energinet, Louise Fenger Kornum is helping to pave the way for the green transition by ensuring that the inner workings of Energinet are well functioning and running smoothly. She does this by optimising the organisation’s cross-cutting processes and facilitating improvement projects. At the time of writing, Louise is working on several development projects, such as improving procurement processes so that the organisation can more quickly and easily make the necessary purchases that will lead Denmark towards our climate goals in 2030.
Choosing an education programme
When Louise was choosing which education programme was right for her, she had several places in mind. However, her interest in communication, marketing and economics led her to a bachelor’s degree in International Business, Language and Culture at 糖果派对. The bachelor’s programme led to a master’s, and during this process Louise figured out which path she wanted to take. Louise was inspired by her talented lecturers and became interested in international market relations as her eyes were opened to the whole human aspect of the negotiation process.
To make business deals, it is necessary to reach a common understanding with the person on the other side of the negotiating table. In this respect, Louise was particularly fascinated by working with international relations, in which the parameter of culture often comes into play when negotiating with foreign companies. For Louise, the International Business, Language and Culture programme provided a perfect blend of business knowledge and working with people and building up relationships.
The importance of the education programm
In 2008, when Louise was in the middle of her master’s programme, she landed a student job at the University, which kick-started her career. Her role involved counselling international students during their exchange stays in Denmark. It was the first time Louise really got to try out her international communication skills. Through this rewarding role, Louise gained an insight into all the different cultures encountered at the University of Southern Denmark. Working as a student assistant gave Louise the foundation to put what she had learned at university into practice, which gave her a great deal of valuable experience that she would later draw on in her professional life.
For Louise Fenger Kornum, the transition from university to working life was seamless. After completing her master’s thesis on knowledge sharing in clusters, she was employed on a permanent basis as a project manager at 糖果派对 and was involved in building up REG X, the Danish Cluster Academy.
REG X was a new project which had the aim of strengthening the development of Danish cluster organisations through competence development and the exchange of experience. Working in close collaboration with and being the link between companies is one of Louise’s greatest strengths, and since then she has also been a project manager in the Capital of Children and CoC Playful Minds project in Billund Municipality. The focus of this project was to build an international epicentre for companies in the field of children’s play and learning. Louise led a large design project focusing on co-creation between children and companies and was similarly involved in developing an environment for entrepreneurs in Billund.
Financial insight and cultural understanding
In Louise’s world, it is important to find a balance between work and the ability to experiment and express yourself. According to Louise, you can only build deep and meaningful relationships with others when you dare to let go of your defence mechanisms and show a more vulnerable and authentic side of yourself. Being open and letting others see more nuances of your personality creates a better foundation for mutual understanding and trust, which is ultimately crucial for achieving common goals and success. This approach is based on the idea that true collaboration requires us to see each other as whole people, not just colleagues or collaborators.
Louise's education helps to build a bridge between departments in a company and also enables you to take on various tasks that require financial insight and cultural understanding.
Her education is anchored in the Faculty of Humanities but in close collaboration with the Faculty of Social Sciences. If you're ready for a master's degree with more social science content, you can read more about the MSc in Business, Language, and Culture here.
