The overarching aim of the research in drones for nature conservation is to revolutionize wildlife conservation practices by integrating the fields of aerial robotics, computer vision, and wildlife ecology, using autonomous drone technology as a unifying platform.
Research in this area is currently focused on the WildDrone project. WildDrone is an international training network for 13 PhD students funded by the Horizon Europe Marie Sk艂odowska Curie Actions. The network will operate from 1 January 2023 – 31 December 2026.
The consortium will train 13 doctoral candidates and equip them with a unique combination of multidisciplinary skills for drone-based ecology and wildlife conservation. The candidates will work closely together in a global training network to realize the full potential of drones and companion autonomous systems for nature conservation missions.
