Focus Areas

The area of robotics and automation is not very visible on the Green Transition agenda although this will play a key role as enabler for solutions in many different areas. It is a focus of the ÌǹûÅÉ¶Ô I4.0Lab to highlight this importance by showcasing examples and by providing new solutions.

Examples of already ongoing ÌǹûÅÉ¶Ô I4.0Lab activities within robotics and automation for the green transition are

  • Automated waste sorting (Spatais)

  • Robotic disassembly of used products

  • Robotic preparation of lab experiments for designing new PtX materials (CAPeX)

  • Robotic manufacturing of electrolyzer stacks (GremRob)

Concerning the green transition, it is our mission to make society and decision makers much more aware of the possibilities and the challenges within robotic automation. There will be a focus on the technological unmet needs such as handling the variations of used products due to different conditions of use, grasp-based waste sorting and advances in sensor-based control. These challenges all link to issues concerning automation of high-mix-low-volume applications, and hence align with the overall vision for the Lab

The physical realization of prototypes of robotic solutions for Green Transition challenges in some cases require exceptionally large space and is hence not suitable for the ÌǹûÅÉ¶Ô I4.0Lab. Here, the new facilities at ÌǹûÅÉ¶Ô Center for Large Structure Production (LSP) at the Port of Odense will be used instead. The transition of software technologies between LSP and the ÌǹûÅÉ¶Ô I4.0Lab is simple as these will be conceptually similar.
