Young Danish twins
All Danish twins born between 2001 and 2021 have received a letter from twin researchers in their own or their parents' digital mailbox. If you have received such a letter, you can help make twin studies of health and disease even better - also in the future.
The Danish Twin Registry has for many years served as a cornerstone for studies on how genes and environment affect health and disease. This is investigated by asking questions to large groups of identical and non-identical twins, regardless of whether they are sick or healthy.
We are now conducting an online survey to gain new knowledge about the lasting effects of COVID-19. At the same time, we would like to expand the twin registry with information about twin pairs born in the period 2001-2021. This information will be used exclusively for research purposes.
We are well underway with the collection and would like to say a big thank you to the more than 10,000 twins and their parents who have responded within the first week. This is almost half of all the pairs we have written to!
We hope that those who have not yet responded will also take a few minutes to complete the small questionnaire.
How much do you resemble each other?
Many twins are often asked whether they are identical or non-identical, and in some cases, this is determined using a DNA test. In this study, we ask 4 simple questions about similarity, which have been shown to give the correct answer for over 95% of all twin pairs.
Lasting effects of COVID-19
The purpose of collecting this information is also to investigate why there were such large differences in how sick children and young people became during the COVID-19 pandemic, and why some of them developed lasting effects.
