Center for Organizational Datafication and its Ethics in Society

CODES – a center at the Department of  Technology and Innovation for the study of
datafication, AI, algorithms, and the ethics hereof

 

CODES – the Center for Organizational Datafication and its Ethics in Society – is an interdisciplinary research center at the Institution for Technology and Innovation at ǹɶ. The center is focused on understanding the increasing datafication of organizations and technologies, including but not limited to how algorithms and AI affect management and innovation in technology-intensive organizations, how data ontologies are created and negotiated in corporations and society, the algorithmification of innovation, organizations, and the professions within them, and – not least – the ethics of these major changes. This means that the center intersects with a broad set of subjects in engineering and engineering management, including product development, operations, and innovation in general.

The center is active in both basic research, applied research, teaching on both institution and faculty levels, as well as outreach activities. Research is developed in close collaboration with industry and other stakeholders, including policy-makers and NGOs. Educational engagements, including supervision, are research-based and developed with a sensitivity to the needs of students and the rapid development of the field(s).

Academically CODES has a particular focus and interest in developing theories within fields such as digital transformation, AI use in organizations, critical datafication studies, applied AI and data ethics, as well as methodologies for studying datafication – all in order to aid businesses to be more competitive when utilizing new digital technologies in the global marketplace.
