Thermal Laboratory Overview

The Thermal Laboratory related to the Smart Cooling and Heating Group has a cutting-edge transcritical CO2 vapour-compression cooling and heating system and a reversible heat pump training unit, among others.

The transcritical CO2 vapour-compression cooling and heating system is equipped with sophisticated add-ons (e.g., thermal energy storage, two-phase ejector, dedicated mechanical subcooling). The system can be used for energy analyses (at both component level and system one) as well as for the development and demonstration of control algorithms within joint R&D projects and consultancy activities.

The reversible heat pump training unit features an inverter compressor with manual speed control, an electronic expansion valve, variable fan speed controls for the evaporator and condenser load adjustment, transparent pipes to visualize the different phases, among others. The unit is used by MSc students to gain unique hands-on experience on vapour-compression cooling and heating systems during their study at ÌǹûÅÉ¶Ô Sønderborg.
