Occupant-Centric Focus
Unlike traditional living labs, the ÌǹûÅÉ¶Ô Smart Campus Living Lab is an active, occupied environment, with Building OU44 regularly hosting up to 1,350 people. Occupant behavior is measured through sensors and cameras that log foot-traffic counts, enabling the development of “occupancy-aware” control strategies. By prioritizing the human element, the living lab ensures technical solutions remain practical, user-friendly, and widely acceptable.
Digital Twin Environment
A standout feature is the living lab’s digital backbone, which mirrors the physical buildings in a virtual environment. Real-time data feeds into dynamic simulation models that run in parallel with daily operations. Researchers and collaborators can test “what-if” scenarios—such as new HVAC control strategies or battery storage integration—in the digital twin before deploying them in the actual buildings. This seamless loop between simulation and reality accelerates innovation while minimizing disruptions to occupants.
