When Lightning Strikes: Challenges for Cybersecurity in Smart Metering聽and Smart Grids
The current evolution of smart energy networks in Europe is driven by聽huge promises of business advantages to both energy providers and聽consumers. Unfortunately, the move towards automated metering and聽regulation of energy grids also raises some severe challenges in terms聽of security and privacy.
In this talk, I will iterate over some of the most pressing issues in聽smart energy networks, such as privacy in smart metering, meter data聽integrity and confidentiality in smart grids, and cybersecurity aspects聽of energy market collaborations. Derived from these analyses, I will聽outline potential solutions based on applied cryptography, threat聽modeling, and model-driven security development. Finally, I will briefly聽discuss open research challenges in these fields.
