Clinical intervention

The establishment of the 5 Steno Diabetes Centers in Denmark is a unique opportunity to consolidate clinical epidemiology and ‘big data’ as a research area and to position Denmark as an international leader in the field.

Cardiometabolic Epidemiology

The objective is to enable all patients with newly detected diabetes throughout the Region of Southern Denmark to be offered screening so that initiatives can be taken to help either prevent or delay the development of cardiovascular disease.

Diabetes care and public involvement

Improved measures to combat diabetes in the Region of Southern Denmark must be supported by a research focus on improving patients’ self-care.

Pathophysiology of type 2 diabetes

Our research in pathophysiological particularly focuses on type 2 diabetes and the mechanisms associated with development of type 2 diabetes. Ultimately this should provide new targets for prevention, detection, and treatment of type 2 diabetes.

Pregnancy and diabetes

Diabetes and obesity in pregnancy carry a significantly increased risk, both of pregnancy and birth complications and of long-term consequences for mother and child, in the form of diabetes and other risk factors for cardiovascular disease
