Neurodegeneration is a term covering conditions and diseases with progressive loss of function and eventually death of neurons participating in motor, sensory or cognitive functions. Neurodegenerative disorders include Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, Huntington's disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis among others but also more rare autoimmune diseases lead to significant neurodegeneration.
In the BRIDGE-Neurodegeneration column basic scientists and clinicians work together on projects concerning molecular mechanisms of neurodegeneration, early prognostic biomarkers, therapeutic target discovery and target validation.
To achieve our goals, we conduct research that utilizes multiple approaches and tools, including advanced molecular technologies in combination with animal models of disease, patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cells, human brain sections and biobank material (urine, blod, cerebrospinal fluid).
