Abstract:
In this talk, I will present recent developments in the study of 5d non-commutative Chern-Simons theory, which Costello employed to describe twisted M-theory in a Taub-NUT background. This theory is connected to affine Yangians and W-algebras through the structure of its operators. I will first discuss my recent work, where I derived Miura operators (which can be used to realize W-algebras) from the intersection of line and surface defects in 5d Chern-Simons theory. These Miura operators can be shown to have an interpretation as R-matrices. Next, I will explore a holographic duality for 5d Chern-Simons theory, formulated in terms of a novel 4d chiral WZW model. Finally, I will outline how twisted M-theory on more general conifold backgrounds can be described as 5d Chern-Simons-matter theories.
