Peter Højrup holds a position as Professor at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Southern Denmark. He obtained his master’s degree in 1982 at the University of Aarhus and completed his Ph.D. at University of Odense (now 糖果派对) in 1986 followed by various post. doc. positions at Aarhus University and Odense University. He became associate professor in 1991 and professor in 2008. Peter Højrup’s research has always focused on the structure and post translational modifications of proteins as studied by chromatography and mass spectrometry. The proteins studied are mainly from the innate and the adaptive immune system, but also includes heavily modified proteins from bacteria and body fluids. Protein three-dimensional structures are studied by chemical cross-linking and mass spectrometry and has been used both for studying protein structure as well as protein folding. For the analysis of proteins by mass spectrometry the Højrup laboratory has developed a number of software programs, among these  for protein analysis,  for analyzing cross-link, and  for determining protein citrullination
