The Bigger Picture Denmark wants to turn the classic health campaign upside down: Instead of telling young people how they should live their lives, we want to share young people's suggestions on what makes a difference in the bigger picture. We swap receiver and sender and give young people the opportunity to communicate their story and messages to other young people, to decision-makers and the public more generally.
The format is inspired by the American project "The Bigger Picture" where videos with young spoken word artists have been used for information and debate, both among young people and decision-makers.
Purpose
The project will adapt the original concept to a Danish context. In the US, The Bigger Picture has worked with spoken word, but it cannot be taken for granted that it will work just as well in a Danish context. We will therefore explore how the format can be adapted to a Danish context and test the format's potential to influence the public conversation about young people's health and well-being and create a greater awareness of the structures and circumstances, including commercial determinants, that are most important from the perspective of young people.
Method
We will conduct a workshop series with young artists (e.g. movie- and music creators, rappers, and actors) as well as communication and public health professionals, in order to develop and clarify the following elements:
- What are the most important messages from the perspective of young people in relation to being able to live a healthy life, based on the best knowledge in the field?
- Which artistic forms of expression and means are best suited to convey and support these messages?
- How should the videos be disseminated to ensure the greatest possible impact?
- How can the initiative be continued in the longer term?
The workshop series is organized and facilitated by the organization C:NTACT. Based on the workshop, young people from the organization Turning Tables Denmark, in collaboration with professional instructors, will produce three short videos.
Project period
The project will start in March 2025, and results from the project are expected to be presented during 2026
