PhD Claes Holger de Vreese is Director of the Digital Democracy Centre, 糖果派对. He is also Distinguished University Professor of Artificial Intelligence and Society, and Chair of Political Communication at ASCoR, The Amsterdam School of Communication Research, University of Amsterdam.
Claes de Vreese is former President of the International Communication Association (ICA) and founding Director of the Center for Politics and Communication. He weas Editor-in-Chief of Political Communication and a is member of the editorial board of several international journals.
He was a Shorenstein Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School of Governance, Harvard University, in 2017, Visiting Professor at the University of Zurich in 2007, and Visiting Scholar at Minda de Gunzburg Center for European Studies, Harvard University, in 2004.
His scholarly achievements have been bestowed with several awards and honours. He was elected a member of the Royal Dutch Academy of Science (KNAW) in 2016 and elected a Fellow of the Royal Holland Society of Sciences (KHMW) in 2019. In 2017-2020, Claes de Vreese chaired the KNAW Social Science Council (SWR) and the national SSH Council.
De Vreese has received numerous large research grants, from the Dutch and Danish Science Foundations, an ERC Consolidator Grant, a Carlsberg Semper Ardens grant, and multiple grants from private foundations. He has published widely () and received more than 45000 citations.
His research interests include the role of technology, AI and automated decision-making in democratic processes. This encompasses research on campaigning, journalism, and information effects on public opinion and electoral behaviour.
